ACFSE - The First 10 Years

Fire Safety of Consumer Electronics

ACFSE CONCERNS

Consumer electronics sold in Europe are one of the major fire hazards in our homes. Conservative estimates show that between 1,000 to 1,500 people are killed in domestic fires yearly, many of which originate from or involve consumer electronics such as television sets.

While intrinsically safe, television sets can be easily ignited by external sources such as candles. The fire load in the plastic housing is equivalent to four liters of petrol, so once ignited they can fuel rapid development of the fire and unleash large amounts of highly toxic smoke. More

ACFSE RECOMMENDATION

Given that the required technologies are already available today, ACFSE calls on all manufacturers to implement higher fire safety standards as soon as possible. More
